Script for Employee Meeting Activity
- Print off the slides and tape them to the meeting room walls.
- Give each employee $1 of monopoly money. If a large group, indicate that they will give their dollar by raising their hands.
- Tell the employees that we all have limited resources ($1) but we all want to do the right thing.
- Talk about each of the situations taped to the wall. Tell them that these were all situations that happened in their community last year.
- They are just going to give what they can. ($1) Ask them to “vote” on what they want to support by paying their dollars. Keep track of the votes by writing on the slides. Write a big zero on those situations that didn’t receive any support.
- Thank everyone for being generous and good citizens. Tell them their “pledge” will really help someone in need. But often, the needs of a community outweigh the resources available and that by donating to United Way resources will be made available to all of the needs portrayed on the slides.
What’s the point? At times, potential donors question why they should not donate directly to an agency. Our United Way does allow donors to designate their investment, but encourages donors to consider the community fund. The point of this exercise is to illustrate that there are many needs in our community and that by donating to our United Way’s community fund, multiple community issues can be addressed.
