2-1-1 First Call for Help

Need help? Have a question? JUST DIAL 2-1-1. 2-1-1 is a confidential information and referral service helpline serving all of Jefferson and North Walworth Counties. In partnership with the Doris M. Highsmith Trust, 2-1-1 is a community service designed to link any person with questions or concerns about health and human services situations to the agency or organization best able to assist them in their request.

2-1-1 is the three digit dialing code designated in 2000 by the Federal Communications Commission to provide widespread public access to community information and referral services. In response, there has been a national effort to develop statewide “2-1-1 systems” that will ensure that 2-1-1 becomes as easily recognized as 911 and 411.

2-1-1 is the number to call for information, referral and limited therapeutic support. The call center that receives the calls maintains a current database of Jefferson County health and human service agencies. Such a database ensures that callers are receiving up-to-date and accurate information. Telephone counselors at 2-1-1 have received specific training to listen, identify needs, and intervene to assist with the most basic or complex issues. They are skilled in dealing with crisis intervention, emotional support and utilize an up-to-date database of over 2,000 programs and 800 agencies to meet the social service needs of the residents in Jefferson County.
